زنی از تونگا
مجید نفیسی
از صندلی پشت تاکسی
جایی که من نشستهام
راننده به جزیرهای میمانَد
که سر از آب بیرون آورده
چونان جزیرهی تونگا*
که یک روز پس از آتشفشان
حضور خود را به جهان
اعلام کرد.
"سی سال پیش
با او در کلیسا آشنا شدم.
از من خواستگاری کرد.
گفتم اگر مرا میخواهی
باید عرق و دود را کنار بگذاری
و او تا امروز
بر سر پیمان خود مانده."
وقتی دارم پیاده میشوم
او سربرمیگرداند
و من ناگهان
زیبایی چهرهاش را درمییابم.

A Woman from Tonga
Majid Naficy
From the back seat of the taxi
Where I am sitting
The driver looks like an island
Jetting out of the water
Like the Island of Tonga*
Which one day after a volcanic interruption
Announced its presence
To the world.
“Thirty years ago
I met him in a church.
He proposed to me.
I told him if you want me
You should quit liquor and smokes
And so far
He has kept his word.”
When I am getting off
She turns her head
And I suddenly realize
The beauty of her face.
