You Sit at the Wheel Again

        By Majid Naficy

That day
I was sitting next to you
Looking at you from the edges of my eyes
When you suddenly pulled over
And said: Something is wrong!

Your tongue became loose
And your right hand numb.
You dialed with your left hand.
An ambulance came
And carried you away.

Today
After weeks of carelessness
You sit at the wheel again
With your right hand still unruly.
But without the mercy of your friends
You drove street by street
And parked next to the sea
To walk with me hand in hand
And speak of your first car.
